Bones sent to Israel by Hezbollah are not Ron Arad's
By Aluf Benn

Tests on bone remains Israel received several weeks ago from a body said to be Ron Arad's indicate they are not from the missing Israel Air Force navigator.

"There was a feeling this was the real thing," an Israeli source said. Another sign of identification, ostensibly from Arad, that Israel received previously also turned out to be fake.

Senior Israeli sources said the remains were passed from Hezbollah by Ernst Uhrlau, the German mediator who brokered last week's prisoner exchange.

Israel believes Hezbollah made a genuine mistake in this case and did not deliberately pass on a false lead about Arad's fate.

The prisoner exchange deal specifies that in the second stage the Hezbollah will act to find credible information on Arad's fate.

If such information is received, Israel will release terrorist Samir Kuntar. Then Israel will begin negotiations for the return of Arad's body.

This stage would include the release of Palestinian prisoners by Israel and the release of two Lebanese and an Iranian held in Germany for terrorist activity.

Israel will also ask Switzerland and France to release six Lebanese terrorists
